FAILED TO BIND TO PORT
Troubleshooting the 'Failed to Bind to Port' error on your Minecraft server. Learn how to resolve port conflicts on AwakeNode and other hosting platforms.
Understanding the Error
The 'Failed to Bind to Port' error occurs when your Minecraft server attempts to start but cannot access the network port (default 25565) it has been assigned. This usually happens because the port is already in use by another process or the server is attempting to bind to an incorrect IP address.
How to fix it
On AwakeNode
If you encounter this error on an AwakeNode server, it is typically caused by a configuration mismatch.
- Check for duplicate instances: Ensure you do not have another server instance running on the same port.
- Use the Version Changer: If you recently changed server types, use the Version Changer in the panel to re-apply your server type, which resets the
server.propertiesfile to default network settings. - Contact Support: If the error persists, open a Support ticket. Our team can verify if there is a backend port conflict or an issue with your assigned IP address.
On other hosts / manually
If you are managing your own server environment, follow these steps to resolve the conflict:
- Check for Ghost Processes: Use your operating system's task manager or terminal (
netstat -tulpn | grep 25565on Linux) to identify if another Java process is still holding the port open. Kill any lingering processes. - Verify server.properties: Open your
server.propertiesfile via SFTP or your file manager. Ensure theserver-portis set to your assigned port and thatserver-ipis either left blank or set to0.0.0.0to allow the server to bind to all available interfaces. - Firewall Restrictions: Ensure your host's firewall or your local OS firewall (like UFW or Windows Firewall) is not blocking the port you are attempting to use.
