Failed to verify username!
Learn how to resolve the 'Failed to verify username' Minecraft error. Follow our guide to check your server's online-mode settings on AwakeNode and beyond.
What this error means
The "Failed to verify username!" error occurs when a client attempts to join a server, but the Minecraft authentication servers cannot verify their session. This typically happens because the client's session has expired or the server is unable to communicate with Mojang's authentication services.
How to fix it
On AwakeNode
- Log in to your AwakeNode panel.
- Navigate to the File Manager.
- Locate the
server.propertiesfile and click to edit it. - Ensure
online-modeis set totrue. - Save the file and restart your server using the button on the main console page.
On other hosts / manually
- Access your server files via SFTP or your host's file manager.
- Open
server.propertiesin a text editor. - Find the line
online-mode=...and ensure it is set totrue. - If you are running a cracked or offline server, this must be set to
false, but note that players will not be authenticated against Mojang servers. - Save the file and restart your server instance.
Troubleshooting connection issues
If the error persists while online-mode is set to true:
- Restart your Minecraft client: Often, a simple restart refreshes your session token.
- Check server status: Ensure Mojang's authentication services are online.
- Contact Support: If you suspect a network-level issue preventing your server from reaching Mojang, open a ticket with AwakeNode support for further investigation.
