What it means
The player's Microsoft account isn't allowed to play online. Minecraft greys out the Multiplayer button or shows this message. Your server isn't involved and can't change it.
It's most common on child accounts in a Microsoft family group, where online play is off by default.
The fix
The account's privacy settings need to allow multiplayer:
- Sign in at account.xbox.com/settings with the player's Microsoft account. For a child account, the parent signs in with their own account and chooses the child.
- Open the online safety settings for Xbox and Windows 10 devices and set You can join multiplayer games to Allow.
- Save, then fully close the Minecraft Launcher, open it again and sign in.
Changes can take a few minutes to apply.
Other causes
- The account is banned from multiplayer by Mojang. The launcher shows a different message with the ban's reason.
- Signed in to the wrong account in the launcher. Check the name at the top.
Questions
Can I fix this from my server?
No. It's set on the player's Microsoft account. Only they, or the parent who manages their account, can change it.
It still says disabled after changing the setting.
Sign out of the launcher completely and back in, and give it a few minutes.
