spark is a performance profiler designed for Minecraft clients, servers, and proxies. It provides detailed insights into server performance, helping you identify the root causes of lag, high CPU usage, or tick-time spikes.

Compatible with Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt, spark is an essential utility for server administrators looking to optimise their instances across Minecraft versions 1.16.5 through 1.20.1.

Installing spark

On AwakeNode

  1. Navigate to the Mod Installer in your AwakeNode Panel.
  2. Search for "spark" and select your server's current loader (Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, or Quilt).
  3. Click Install. The panel will automatically place the mod in your /mods folder and restart the server.

On other hosts / manually

  1. Download the correct version of spark for your loader and Minecraft version from Modrinth.
  2. Connect to your server via SFTP.
  3. Upload the .jar file to the /mods folder in your server directory.
  4. Restart your server to load the mod.

Common issues

  • Mod not loading: Ensure the spark version matches your server's loader (e.g., don't use the Forge version on a Fabric server).
  • Command not found: Ensure the server has fully restarted after installation. If it persists, check the console logs for "spark" to verify it loaded correctly.
  • Incompatible version: spark requires specific Minecraft versions (1.16.5 to 1.20.1). If you are running an unsupported version, the mod will not initialise.

Performance

spark is designed to be lightweight and only consumes resources when you actively run a profile command. It does not negatively impact your server's baseline performance.

If you find your server is consistently struggling with high tick times, you may need to upgrade your plan. On AwakeNode, upgrading your plan automatically adjusts your RAM allocation (Xmx) without requiring manual configuration. If you are on another host, you must manually edit the -Xmx value in your startup script or command line to increase your memory allocation.
