A modpack is a set of mods, configs and often a custom world setup, put together so everyone gets the same thing. The server needs the pack's server files; your players install the same pack in their launcher.
Modrinth packs
Choose the pack when you order, or on the Startup tab of an existing server: pick the modpack and the server installs it the next time it starts. The panel picks the right loader and Minecraft version for the pack.
Popular packs also have their own pages on our site, with the memory we suggest.
CurseForge packs
On the Startup tab, enter the pack's CurseForge page link (like curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks/all-the-mods-10) and a CurseForge API key. The server downloads the pack's server files when it starts.
Use the pack's page link. A CurseForge "share" link only works in the CurseForge app.
Enough memory
Modpacks need a lot more memory than vanilla. As a rough guide:
| Pack size | Memory |
|---|---|
| Light (under 100 mods) | 4 to 6 GB |
| Medium (100 to 200 mods) | 6 to 8 GB |
| Large (200+ mods, like All the Mods) | 8 to 12 GB |
If the server crashes with OutOfMemoryError while starting, it needs more. See how much RAM your server needs.
Getting players connected
Players install the same pack, same version in a launcher that supports it: the Modrinth App, the CurseForge app, Prism Launcher or ATLauncher. Then they add your server's address in the pack's multiplayer screen.
If the versions differ, they'll get a mismatched mod list error.
Switching packs
Changing to a different pack on an existing world rarely goes well: blocks and items from the old pack vanish or break the world. Take a backup, then start the new pack on a new world.
Questions
Can I add extra mods to a modpack?
Yes, through the Mods tab, but players need them too, and some additions conflict with the pack. Add one at a time.
How do I update the pack?
Choose the newer pack version on the Startup tab and restart. Take a backup first, and check the pack's notes for changes that need a new world.
