BetterNether is a comprehensive Minecraft mod that expands the Nether dimension with a variety of new biomes, unique mobs, and custom tools. It focuses on enhancing the fiery dimension's atmosphere and gameplay depth through improved world generation and content additions.

This mod is available for the Fabric loader.

Installing BetterNether

On AwakeNode

  1. Download the version of BetterNether for your server's software and Minecraft version from its Modrinth page.
  2. Open your server's Files tab, go to the mods folder and upload the .jar file. You can also upload it over SFTP.
  3. Restart your server from the Console tab.

On other hosts / manually

  1. Ensure your server is running a Fabric-compatible environment.
  2. Download the BetterNether mod file from Modrinth for your specific Minecraft version.
  3. Use an SFTP client (like FileZilla) or the server's File Manager to upload the .jar file to the mods folder in your server's root directory.
  4. Restart your server.

Common issues

  • Missing Dependencies: BetterNether often requires additional libraries or API mods to function. Check the Modrinth page to ensure all required dependencies are installed in your mods folder.
  • Version Mismatch: Ensure the mod version matches your server's Minecraft version exactly. Using a 1.20.1 mod on a 1.21.1 server will cause a crash.
  • World Generation Conflicts: If you are adding this to an existing world, new biomes will only appear in newly generated chunks. You may need to use a tool to delete specific regions if you want the new content to appear near your existing base.

Performance

BetterNether adds significant content to the Nether, which can increase the load on your server's CPU during chunk generation. If you experience lag while exploring, ensure your server has sufficient RAM allocated. On AwakeNode, if you need more resources, you can upgrade your plan at any time; your Xmx startup flags will update automatically. For other hosts, you may need to manually adjust your -Xmx startup flag in your start script to provide more memory to the Java process.

Does BetterNether work on Spigot or Paper?+

No, BetterNether is a Fabric-exclusive mod and will not function on Spigot, Paper, or Purpur servers.

Can I add BetterNether to an existing world?+

Yes, you can add it to an existing world, but the new biomes and features will only generate in newly explored chunks.

Do I need to install this on my client as well as the server?+

Yes, BetterNether is a content mod that must be installed on both the server and every player's client to function correctly.

What should I do if the server crashes on startup?+

Check your crash report in the logs folder to see if a dependency is missing or if there is a version conflict. If you are on AwakeNode, you can open a support ticket for further assistance.
