YUNG's Better Strongholds is a popular world generation mod that completely redesigns Minecraft's strongholds. It replaces the original, often repetitive structures with complex, sprawling layouts that make exploring the underground significantly more rewarding and challenging.

Installing YUNG's Better Strongholds

On AwakeNode

  1. Download the version of YUNG's Better Strongholds for your server's software and Minecraft version from its Modrinth page.
  2. Open your server's Files tab, go to the mods folder and upload the .jar file. You can also upload it over SFTP.
  3. Restart your server from the Console tab.

On other hosts / manually

  1. Download the correct version of YUNG's Better Strongholds from Modrinth for your specific loader and Minecraft version.
  2. Use the File Manager or an SFTP client to upload the .jar file to your server's mods folder.
  3. Ensure you have the required dependencies (such as YUNG's API) installed in the same folder.
  4. Restart your server.

Common issues

  • Missing Dependencies: The mod requires YUNG's API to function. Ensure this is also present in your mods folder.
  • Version Mismatch: Ensure the mod version matches your server's Minecraft version exactly (e.g., 1.21.1 vs 1.21.4).
  • World Generation Conflicts: If strongholds are not appearing as expected, ensure you do not have other world generation mods conflicting with the stronghold structure pool.

Performance

YUNG's Better Strongholds adds complex structures that can increase initial world generation load. If you notice server lag during exploration, ensure your server has sufficient RAM allocated for your player count. If you are on an AwakeNode plan and require more resources, you can upgrade your plan at any time, and the Xmx memory settings will update automatically. For users on other hosts, ensure your startup command includes sufficient -Xmx memory flags to handle the increased generation overhead.

Does YUNG's Better Strongholds work with existing worlds?+

It will work, but the new structures will only generate in newly loaded chunks that have not been explored yet.

Do I need to install this mod on my client as well?+

Yes, this is a world generation mod that must be installed on both the server and the client for all players.
