Chunky is a powerful utility plugin designed to pre-generate chunks in your Minecraft world. By generating terrain before players explore, it significantly reduces server lag caused by world generation during gameplay.

It is compatible with a wide range of loaders including Paper, Spigot, Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, Folia, and Sponge, supporting versions from 1.13.2 through 1.16.2.

Installing Chunky

On AwakeNode

  1. Navigate to your server in the AwakeNode panel and open the Plugin Installer.
  2. Search for "Chunky" and click Install. The panel will automatically download the correct version for your server type.
  3. Restart your server to complete the installation.

On other hosts / manually

  1. Download the appropriate Chunky jar file from the official Modrinth page.
  2. Connect to your server via SFTP and upload the file to your plugins or mods folder.
  3. Restart your server to initialise the plugin.

Common issues

  • Plugin not loading: Ensure your server version is between 1.13.2 and 1.16.2. If you are on an unsupported version, Chunky will not initialise.
  • High CPU usage during generation: Pre-generation is resource-intensive. If your server becomes unresponsive, use the /chunky pause command to throttle the process.
  • World corruption: Always ensure you have a full server backup before starting a large-scale pre-generation task.

Performance

Chunky is highly efficient, but pre-generating a large world will consume significant CPU and disk I/O. For the best experience, run pre-generation tasks during off-peak hours.

If you find your server is running out of memory during the process, you may need to upgrade your plan. On AwakeNode, upgrading your plan automatically adjusts your RAM allocation without requiring manual configuration. If you are on another host, ensure your -Xmx startup flag is set appropriately for your world size and player count.
