Geyser is a bridge and proxy plugin that allows players using Minecraft: Bedrock Edition to connect to Minecraft: Java Edition servers. It translates packets between the two editions, enabling cross-platform play without requiring Bedrock players to own a Java account.

It supports a wide range of loaders including BungeeCord, Fabric, NeoForge, Paper, Spigot, and Velocity, and is compatible with Minecraft versions 1.16.5 through 1.20.

Installing Geyser

On AwakeNode

  1. Navigate to your server in the AwakeNode panel and select the Plugin Installer.
  2. Search for "Geyser" and click Install. The panel will automatically place the plugin in your plugins folder.
  3. Restart your server to complete the installation.

On other hosts / manually

  1. Download the latest Geyser jar file from the official Modrinth page.
  2. Connect to your server via SFTP and upload the file to your plugins or mods folder, depending on your server type.
  3. Restart your server to generate the configuration files.

Common issues

  • Connection timeouts: Ensure your port forwarding (or the specific port assigned by your host) is configured correctly for both TCP and UDP traffic, as Bedrock requires UDP.
  • Skin issues: Bedrock skins may not always render correctly on Java clients; this is a known limitation of the translation process.
  • Inventory glitches: If items appear to disappear, ensure your server version matches the recommended version for your specific Geyser build.

Performance

Geyser requires additional CPU resources to handle the real-time packet translation between Java and Bedrock protocols. If you notice increased tick latency or TPS drops, consider upgrading your server plan to provide more headroom for the bridge process. As AwakeNode manages all JVM startup flags and memory allocation automatically, you do not need to manually adjust Xmx settings; if you require more RAM, simply upgrade your plan in the panel.
