- Works with
- Paper, Purpur, Spigot
What it does
GriefPrevention lets players claim land themselves. Inside a claim, nobody else can build, break, open chests or hurt animals unless the owner trusts them. It's the easiest way to stop griefing on a survival server without staff watching everything.
Install
Put the jar in plugins and restart. It works straight away with sensible defaults.
How players use it
New players get a starter claim around their first chest. After that:
- Hold a golden shovel and right-click two opposite corners of the area. That's a claim.
- Holding a stick and right-clicking shows claims nearby.
- Claims cost claim blocks, one per block of area. Players earn more by playing (by default, a set amount per hour online).
Commands players use most:
| Command | Does |
|---|---|
/trust Name | Lets them build and use everything in this claim |
/containertrust Name | Chests, animals and crops only |
/accesstrust Name | Buttons, doors and beds only |
/untrust Name | Removes them |
/claimslist | Your claims and claim blocks |
/abandonclaim | Deletes the claim you're standing in |
For staff
/adjustbonusclaimblocks Name 1000gives a player extra claim blocks./adminclaimsthen a golden shovel makes claims nobody owns, for spawn and shared areas./ignoreclaimslets staff build anywhere, for fixing things.
Settings are in plugins/GriefPreventionData/config.yml, including how many claim blocks players start with and earn.
Common problems
"You don't have enough claim blocks": players need to play longer, or staff can give bonus blocks.
A claim doesn't protect the Nether or End: by default claims work in the worlds listed in the config. Check Claims.Mode for each world.
Players can still be killed in claims: PvP is set per world in the config, separately from building protection.
Performance
Light. Very large numbers of claims on busy servers add a little lookup cost, but it's rarely noticeable.
Questions
Do I need WorldGuard as well?
Not for player claims. WorldGuard is better for staff-made regions with special rules. Many servers use both: GriefPrevention for players, WorldGuard for spawn.
Can players claim underground?
Claims go from the surface down to a set depth by default, and extend downwards automatically as players build below them.
