LuckPerms is a powerful permissions plugin and mod designed for Minecraft servers. It allows administrators to manage player permissions, groups, and ranks with ease, supporting a wide range of server software including Bukkit, Paper, Fabric, Forge, and Velocity.

Installing LuckPerms

On AwakeNode

  1. Navigate to your server in the AwakeNode panel and select the Plugin Installer.
  2. Search for 'LuckPerms' and click Install.
  3. Restart your server to apply the changes.

On other hosts / manually

  1. Download the latest LuckPerms jar file from the official Modrinth page.
  2. Connect to your server via SFTP and upload the file to the /plugins (or /mods) directory.
  3. Restart your server to generate the configuration files.

Common issues

  • Plugin not loading: Ensure you have downloaded the correct version for your server software (e.g., the Bukkit version for Paper/Spigot, or the Fabric/Forge version for modded servers).
  • Permissions not applying: Check the server console for startup errors and ensure you have assigned the correct nodes to your user or group.
  • Database connection errors: If using an external database, verify your credentials in the config.yml file. For most small to medium servers, the default H2 file-based storage is sufficient.

Performance

LuckPerms is highly optimised and is designed to have a minimal impact on your server's CPU and RAM usage. It uses efficient caching to ensure permission checks are near-instantaneous. If you are running a very large network with thousands of players, ensure your server has sufficient RAM allocated to handle the data storage; if you need to upgrade your plan, AwakeNode will automatically update your startup flags to match your new memory allocation. For other hosts, ensure your -Xmx flag in your startup script is set appropriately for your player count.
