Plugin

Dynmap

A live web map of your world in a browser, showing players as they move. Needs its own port.

AwakeNode Team · Updated 5 Nov 2026

Works with
Paper, Purpur, Spigot, Fabric, Forge

What it does

Dynmap draws a Google Maps style view of your world that anyone can open in a browser, with players' positions updating live. It's popular for showing off builds and helping players find their way.

BlueMap does a similar job with a 3D view.

  1. Install Dynmap from the Plugins or Mods tab, for your server software, and restart once so it makes its config.
  2. Add a port for it on the Network tab.
  3. Edit plugins/dynmap/configuration.txt (or dynmap/configuration.txt on modded servers) and set:
webserver-port: 25603

using the port you added.

  1. Restart. The map is at http://your-server-address:25603.

Render the map

Dynmap draws chunks as players visit them. To draw everything already explored:

dynmap fullrender world

Rendering a big world takes a long time and a lot of CPU. Run it when the server is quiet.

Keep it under control

  • Limit the area: set a world border, or the visibilitylimits options in the config, so it doesn't render the whole explored world.
  • Fewer map types: the default config renders several views (flat, surface, cave). Turn off the ones you don't need in the world settings.
  • Disk space: map tiles take a lot of storage on big worlds. Check your storage on the panel.

Common problems

The page doesn't load: check webserver-port matches the port on the Network tab, and look for "Web server started on address" in the console.

"Address already in use": another plugin (voice chat, Geyser, BlueMap) has the same port. Give each its own.

The map is blank: nothing has rendered yet. Walk around or run dynmap fullrender.

Questions

Dynmap or BlueMap?+

Dynmap shows a flat or angled 2D map and runs on more server types. BlueMap is 3D and many find it nicer to look at. Both need their own port.

Does Dynmap lag the server?+

Normal updates are light. Full renders are heavy, so run them when few players are online.
