- Works with
- Paper, Purpur, Spigot
What it does
Vault doesn't add anything you can see in game. It's a go-between: plugins that need money or permissions (shops, jobs, land claims, rank-ups) talk to Vault, and Vault talks to whichever economy and permissions plugins you've installed. That way a shop plugin works the same whether your money comes from EssentialsX or another economy plugin.
You install it because another plugin needs it. If a plugin's page says "requires Vault", this is what it means.
Install
- Download Vault and put the jar in the
pluginsfolder, from the Plugins tab or the Files tab. - Install an economy plugin if you want money. EssentialsX includes one.
- Restart the server.
The console shows lines like [Vault] Economy: EssentialsX Economy [Essentials Economy] when it has found them.
Vault's original version hasn't been updated in a long time but still works on current Paper for most plugins. VaultUnlocked is a maintained fork with the same name inside, so plugins that need Vault accept it. Use one or the other, not both.
Common problems
"No economy plugin found" or a shop plugin saying economy isn't available: Vault is installed but nothing provides money. Install EssentialsX (or another economy plugin), restart, and check the startup lines.
A plugin still says it needs Vault after you installed it: check the jar is directly in plugins, not a subfolder, and that the console shows Vault enabling without errors.
Two economy plugins: Vault uses the first one it finds. Remove the one you don't want so balances don't split between them.
Performance
None worth worrying about. Vault only passes messages between plugins.
Questions
Do I need Vault on a Fabric server?
No. Vault is a Paper and Spigot plugin. Fabric servers use mods that handle economy themselves.
Does Vault store players' money?
No. The economy plugin stores balances. Vault only lets other plugins reach them.
